Middlecombe is a traditional plant nursery owned by husband and wife, Nigel and Isy North.

Nigel and Isy's team offer friendly and informative advice, as well as an extensive selection of shrubs, perennials, climbers, grasses, conifers and trees, many grown on site, alongside quality local, British, Dutch and Italian stock including large specimen plants for instant gardens and a selection of exotics, palms and bamboos. They also stock a small variety of houseplants.

CUPPA Coffee Shop is located inside the nursery greenhouse, renovated to accommodate indoor and outdoor seating. Serving Bristol Twenty Tea and Coffee alongside a selection of homemade cakes, as well as a breakfast and lunch menu.

Situated a short distance from the A370 between Bristol and Weston-super-Mare, on the edge of the village of Congresbury in North Somerset, the nursery covers approximately three acres in a slightly hidden countryside setting.

The horticultural heritage of this idyllic spot stretches back nearly 100 years to a time when it was a thriving market garden. In the 1960’s and 1970’s a cut flower business flourished here, but by the mid 1980’s the nursery was falling into disrepair. It was in 1988 that Nigel and Isy North came to the rescue, moving here from Keynsham with their young family. ‘We fell for it instantly,’ says Isy, ‘it seemed a wonderful place to bring up a family but also had great potential to become the plant nursery of our dreams.’ Sheer determination and hard work meant the couples’ growing ambition was swiftly realised.

Over the last 30 years Middlecombe has acquired a reputation for the excellent quality and value of their plants, many of them expertly grown here by Isy. Their range encompasses everything you’d expect from roses and fruit trees to herbs and climbing plants, but also an extensive variety of hardy perennials. For those in need of something instant, Middlecombe offers the widest choice of large ‘specimen’ trees and shrubs in the area.

Whilst plants are Isy and Nigel’s enduring passion, when daughter Becci joined the business a few years ago the family began to considerably expand their range of garden products. Housed in a renovated 1960’s glasshouse, Middlecombe’s eclectic Garden Shop hosts selections of garden tools, seeds, pots, flower bulbs and organic plant care products, all carefully hand picked by the family. Here you’ll also find an ever-widening range of indoor plants and quirky hand made garden ornaments.

The nursery has car parking and is within easy walking distance of a bus stop on the Bristol Road.
